A base in Spain
Plan your home and daily life in Spain, subject to the residence conditions attached to your permit. The program is built around genuine remote professional activity rather than a property purchase.
International remote work
from 4 monthsIndicative program timeline
Live in Spain while continuing your professional work for companies or clients abroad. We help remote employees, self-employed professionals and their families prepare a coherent application and complete the steps towards a Spanish residence card.
The overall planning estimate starts from four months and covers preparation, assessment, biometrics and the residence-card stage where the file and submission route permit. It is not the statutory decision period or a guaranteed moving date.
01 / Your plans
Plan your home and daily life in Spain, subject to the residence conditions attached to your permit. The program is built around genuine remote professional activity rather than a property purchase.
A Spanish residence permit can support short visits to other Schengen states under the applicable travel rules. It does not give an unrestricted right to settle or work in another European country.
Eligible relatives may have a family application route. We examine the relationship, dependence where relevant, financial resources and documents required for each applicant.
02 / Eligibility
Your employment must be with a company outside Spain, with suitable evidence of the relationship and permission to work remotely. The company’s operating history and your existing relationship are relevant to preparation.
Your foreign client contracts, invoices and payments must substantiate genuine professional activity. For independent professional work, the permitted Spanish-client share is subject to the program’s limit; it is not a general permission for employees to work for Spanish employers.
The application must address the required professional qualification or qualifying experience. A business registration alone does not prove the professional activity described in the application.
03 / Important conditions
Prepare evidence of the required existing professional relationship and the foreign company’s activity. The three-month relationship requirement must not be confused with the overall application timeline.
Financial thresholds are linked to the applicable Spanish minimum-wage measure and family composition. Use the current official figures when preparing your application, not an automatically updated year on an old amount. Separate real professional income from transfers between your own accounts.
Social-security arrangements and suitable health cover depend on the employment structure and applicable agreements. Resolve this before submission: a remote-work contract on its own does not settle social-security obligations.
04 / Family applications
We prepare a separate checklist for each participating relative. Marriage and birth records must consistently establish the family relationship. Financial planning takes account of the number of applicants and any applicable dependency requirement. Appointment arrangements, original documents and children’s attendance should be considered before booking travel.
Before finalising travel, confirm who must attend, which originals are needed, and whether a child’s application requires consent or representation. The principal applicant’s timeline does not automatically describe every relative’s procedure.
05 / Preparation
This is an overview of the document categories. Your checklist will reflect the actual basis, family composition, place of submission and the accepting authority’s requirements. Original records should be reviewed before final certification and translation.
A valid passport and evidence of lawful residence or stay for the chosen submission route. Application from within Spain requires lawful presence; it is not a way to regularise an overstay.
Employment or client agreements, remote-work authorisation, company information and evidence of the existing relationship. Documents should describe the real arrangement and use consistent legal names.
Bank statements, invoices, payment confirmations and any required financial evidence. A payment intermediary should be connected to the actual client by supporting records.
A relevant qualification or suitable evidence of professional experience. Regulated activities may require additional consideration.
Criminal-record evidence, declarations and health or social-security documents required for the particular application. Discuss previous convictions privately before the file is finalised.
Marriage and birth certificates, dependency evidence where applicable and any necessary certification and translations.
06 / Timeline
The overall planning estimate starts from four months and covers preparation, assessment, biometrics and the residence-card stage where the file and submission route permit. It is not the statutory decision period or a guaranteed moving date.
Review citizenship, residence, contracts, company history, qualifications and family composition. Identify the route of submission and any gaps in evidence.
Obtain required records, resolve inconsistent names and payments, arrange certification and translations, and prepare the financial and professional evidence.
Support submission through the appropriate route and responses to additional requests. The statutory UGE decision period and the longer preparation and card-production stages are different measures.
After approval, prepare for the required registration, biometric appointment and residence-card collection. Appointment availability and production times affect the final calendar.
A residence authorisation issued through the in-country route may be valid for up to three years, while the consular visa route has its own validity and next steps. Renewals, long-term residence and naturalisation each have separate conditions. The Digital Nomad permit does not automatically confer citizenship.
Tax and ongoing obligations
A residence permit does not by itself settle your tax-residence position. Time spent in Spain, personal and economic connections and applicable rules must be considered before relocation.
Any special tax regime has separate eligibility conditions and deadlines. Digital Nomad residence approval should not be treated as automatic acceptance into a particular tax regime.
Keep evidence of continuing professional activity and the conditions attached to the permit. Renewal, long-term residence and citizenship have their own requirements and residence calculations.
07 / Immigration Partners
We review the circumstances and available documents, identify the basis to be considered and explain the questions still needing evidence.
The agreed work may include a checklist, document review, coordination of archive requests or translations, submission arrangements and responses to further requests.
We explain the relevant registration, card or passport steps, your personal participation and the information needed to plan subsequent actions.
Tell us about your plans and family circumstances. We will define the information needed for the first assessment and the proposed scope of support.
08 / Questions and answers
Citizenship alone does not determine the outcome. Assess all program requirements, lawful place of submission and the applicant’s personal circumstances.
A property purchase is not a condition of this Digital Nomad program. Housing arrangements and address registration are separate practical matters.
The in-country route requires lawful presence and a qualifying application. Check the remaining permitted stay and document readiness before travelling.
The actual foreign professional relationship, contracts, income and social-security arrangements must be assessed. A Russian company or sole-trader registration alone is not sufficient evidence.
For independent professionals, work for Spanish clients is subject to the program’s 20% limit. Employees under this route work for companies outside Spain.
The circumstances, country, nature of the case and legal status of the record require a private assessment before preparing the application.
The permit is for residence in Spain. Travel elsewhere in Schengen remains subject to short-stay rules, generally 90 days in any 180-day period, and does not replace another country’s residence or work permission.
It is an overall planning estimate covering preparation and the relevant application and residence-card stages, subject to eligibility, document availability, appointments and additional requests.
